International Affairs
The National Union of University Students in Finland was founded in 1921 so that
Finnish students could be able to take part in international student
gatherings and meetings. The international aspect has always been a
core issue in SYL's work.
Taking part in international meetings is still a very important aspect
of SYL's work. Making a difference between taking part in international
meetings and lobbying for various issues is rather difficult, because
they are very closely connected. In today's world there are hardly any
matters in student politics that would not have an international aspect
or framework.
The most important international partners for SYL are
ESU (European Students' Union)
, The National Unions of Students in Europe and NOM, the Nordic and Baltic co-operation structure.
In 2008 people working in SYL's international sector are:
- Tuure Pitkänen, Member of the board
- Eeva Heinonen, International Officer
- Juuso Leivonen, Educational Officer
